Obviously I haven’t posted in awhile, and I’m surprised and somewhat delighted to see that somehow I still manage a few hits every day. I’m going to keep updating this blog with personal projects and Linux hacks that I deem update-worthy, but I think I’m going to tone down the politics for the time being. I find myself re-reading what I’ve written and sometimes don’t even agree with myself. I enjoy my anonymity a little too much, and frankly I’m burnt out on it all. It’s hard enough now, back in school and surrounded by liberals, communists, “socialist libertarians” and the like, along with atheists to merely defend my political and religious beliefs in real life, much less spend the time to infuriate everyone en mass by posting on my blog.
What I do want to point to is a much more light-hearted art blog started by a friend of mine and myself, who are going by Douglas and Skeeter, respectively, which can be found at http://postlunch.tumblr.com. I do hope that my few readers of this blog find their way there and leave some comments on our work.
Anyway, I intend to post here as things become relevant. Back to schoolwork.
I know this blog has been quiet for awhile, and for that I apologize. I’ve been spending time opening my brain here at Purdue University. It’s late, and I should be studying for my Italian quiz in the morning, but I have a gripe.
Mostly, I’m questioning my skills as a writer. I’ve always thought of myself as being somewhat accomplished, especially considering that I hail from the math and science side of the brain, for the most part. Tonight I have been up late reviewing other students’ papers for class. Since we’ve been doing this over the last week or so, I’ve seen a good paper or two. Nothing mind-blowing, not that I’d say my writing is. But tonight, I read two absolutely abysmal papers, and I’m wondering how I have a C in this course. Of course, I have no idea what these writers have, but their writing skills borderline on high school level. I am, for once, speechless.
Am I taking crazy pills?
Guys, I just want you to realize that people who write blogs aren’t writing well-read research or well-documented papers or any of that shit. Blog posts are by-and-large (especially here) rants. I often have my beliefs backed up by research I have done at some point but I don’t document, I don’t footnote, and for crying out loud I don’t cite my sources because the stuff I’m bitching and moaning about is accumulated knowledge from god-only-knows-how-long that for one reason or another has decided to burst forth onto this poor website like a whitehead on a teenager’s face.
All I’m hoping to do is to make you think. I don’t care if I change your opinion but I want you to reconsider something new every time you read one of my posts. If it pisses you off, good. At least you can put up a decent defense, I hope.
Hell, I proofread these damn rants like once. Twice, if it’s technical stuff and I don’t want to confuse some poor Ubuntu n00b.
If you want real honest stuff go read Michelle Malkin’s blog or Jeff Atwood’s. Hell, I don’t even have my name on this blog. Just understand the medium.
Don’t believe everything you read on the internet. For that matter, until you find a real paper with real sources, don’t believe anything you read on the internet. Especially blogs. Especially blogs pretending to be newspapers. For crying out loud.
Short post; I just wanted to share this with the internets because I couldn’t find the information out there.
I just bought a BBP Laptop Bag for my tablet from http://www.bbpbags.com/clearance.html.
I got the Extra Small Hamptons Bag, and as you can see, it’s on clearance as of this writing for $35. The important info is that the X61 Tablet fits in the bag with the extended battery. It’s a tight fit, and the first time I put it in I had trouble zipping it up, but it’s just perfect so that after the initial fabric stretch it’s not any problem, and I don’t have to worry about the computer bumping around inside the bag (as I did with my old bag).
So far I’m really satisfied with the build of the bag, and the fact that my laptop fits perfectly is a big bonus. Of course, they are on clearance, so grab one while you still can, X61 Tablet owners! (I bet the X200 & X200 Tablet fit also, as the X61 non-tablet also probably fits, as the snug fit is in the height, not the width, of the computer)
For my few steady readers, I just want you to know that I’m taking a break from my blog for the summer, for the most part. There might be some exceptions to this rule (such as this writing), but for the most part I am spending much needed quality time with my girlfriend before the long haul of long distance relationship-ing during the school year, and gearing up to starting at a new University.
See everyone in the fall!
I complained about high fructose corn syrup tasting like crap awhile back (too lazy to link) and subsidies and whatnot, but it seems like Pepsi has seen there is a market for soda with cane sugar. Bought a case of Mountain Dew (my favorite get-shit-done drink) Throwback and it is godlike.
Doesn’t feel so much like radioactive sludge anymore. Get some. It’s amazing.
- Blogs.
This is Conner. I thought I’d share one of his favorite pastimes, which is chasing rocks.
In this case, he isn’t even deterred by six inches of water.
I think the best part is that it’s repeatable, given that you have a constant supply of rocks, since he doesn’t retrieve them.
Seriously. If you’re having a serious bout of depression, this is my free advice. Take it from a veteran. My cat, Marlie, really helped me through some tough times. Adopting her made me feel really good about myself, which was a new feeling in that part of my life.
And her companionship when I felt like I had no friends? Priceless. And now I have a friend to keep for years. There are studies that back this up too, but that’s not the point of my post. I just want to throw my story out there.
Do it. Go to a shelter. Pick one out. She will love you forever. They know when you rescue them. They do. (For pics check out the my cat page)
